NPF Fellow Symposium to Enhance Quality of Research in Pancreatic Disease

April 11 - 13, 2008

Chicago, IL

Applications Due 2/15/08

The National Pancreas Foundation (NPF) is currently accepting applications for the NPF Symposium to Enhance Quality of Research in Pancreatic Disease.

The National Pancreas Foundation is committed to improving the quality of clinical services available to patients suffering from pancreatic diseases as well as furthering research into improving diagnosis, treatment and cure. We have established a training program that will transform our ability to conduct research and provide the highest quality diagnosis and treatment to people suffering from pancreatic diseases. This symposium for Fellows will provide training and education in two key areas: pancreatic disease and research principles. The training schedule will provide discussion of pancreatic physiology, pancreatic cancer, acute pancreatitis, endocrine tumors and chronic pancreatitis as well as basic science theory; research ethics, project planning and financing, statistics, data presentation and data analysis. The weekend will allow plenty of time for mentors and fellows to discuss new approaches to research and outlooks for the future. The National Pancreas Foundation Travel Scholarship to the NPF Fellow Symposium is a one-time grant. It is offered to encourage young researchers already pursuing the study of pancreatic disease to actively participate in this educational program. Conference planners want to stimulate interest and opportunity for young researchers regarding future study of the pancreas and are committed to apply these travel scholarships to qualified individuals.

ELIGIBILITY:

Physicians and PhD-level scientists who have a demonstrated interest in pancreatic disease as evidenced by publications and career progress to date will be encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to researchers who have competed formal study within the past five years and who have an identified mentor. Applicants must fully complete all grant applications and supply all materials within the noted time deadline, including a mentor’s letter of recommendation, to be eligible for a grant.

Pancreas Patients

The National Pancreas Foundation is committed to encouraging physicians to specialize in the research, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the pancreas. To date, we have awarded more than $1,000,000 to worthy basic science and clinical research in the field of pancreas disease. Information regarding our grant program is available by going to research.

NPF is an annual sponsor of the American Pancreas Association annual meeting, and attends several conferences throughout the year including the annual meetings of the ACG and DDW. We sponsor the NPF Young Investigator Travel Awards program, encouraging young physician scientists to participate in educational conferences and eventually choose the field of pancreatology.

We are continually seeking to collaborate with other medical associations to be heard as one voice, particular in our combined efforts to increase NIH funding for pancreas research. Please review all the opportunities and submit your thoughts and questions. We want to hear from you!
