Pain Management

Pain is the body’s way of telling us that something is wrong. Since everyone feels pain differently, sometimes the biggest challenge is to figure out how to describe the pain in the first place. Managing the pain – and helping others to understand how they can help you manage the pain – is challenging as well. We have collected some articles, below, to help jump-start your thinking about this important topic.
  • Dealing with Pain is an introductory article about how to describe and treat pain, as well as the fear of addiction to painkillers.
  • Ten Steps from Patient to Person is from the American Chronic Pain Association: “The isolation and fear that can overwhelm a person with chronic pain grows over time. And the return to a fuller, more rewarding life also takes time. It’s a journey with many phases. The ACPA describes these phases as Ten Steps.”
  • Do's and Don'ts for Chronic Pain was sent to us by one of our support group members for patients who need help telling friends and family how they can help them manage their pain.
